IPSN Student Travel Grants

Sponsored by NSF and SAP

Several student travel grants are now available to IPSN/SPOTS. Each grant includes:

• Conference registration waiver
• Reimbursement for 2 nights of hotel accommodations up to a maximum of $225/night (original receipt must be provided)

Important Dates

• Application Deadline: March 28

• Notification of Acceptance: April 1

Eligibility

Student selection for the travel grants will be in accordance with the following guidelines:

• The applicant must be a current student at a recognized US institution of higher education.
• The applicant’s field of study must be related to IPSN/SPOTS topics.
• Travel grants will be awarded on need-basis. Students who are well-funded and have ample means of covering their travel should not apply.
• Preference is given to under-represented minorities in Engineering Education and in the broad field of Computer and Information Science and Engineering.
• Travel grants are given preferably to individuals who otherwise would not attend. Specifically, authors of accepted papers who typically will attend anyway are discouraged from applying unless they have special circumstances. (Such applications will receive consideration only after all need-based applications have been considered.)
• Students from under-represented states and institutions are specifically encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

The student applicant must send an e-mail to “zaher AT cs . uiuc . edu”. The subject of the e-mail must be “IPSN TRAVEL AWARD APPLICATION” (in uppercase letters). The e-mail must contain the following information:

The student must include in the e-mail a short (one-paragraph) narrative describing (i) why IPSN/SPOTS is relevant to the student’s research, and (ii) why they consider themselves eligible for a travel grant under the eligibility criteria outlined above.

The applications will be examined and ranked. The top applicants will receive award letters (by e-mail) informing them of the acceptance decision.
